"Lancaster Cares" After School Program

THE POSITION

Under direction of the Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Coordinator, After School Teacher Coordinator and Recreation Leader III ("Lancaster Cares" After School program), the incumbent implements academic and enrichment recreation activities developed for elementary or middle school age children.  Recreation Leader I's are also responsible for assisting with daily duties associated with community recreation programs, facility rentals and special events.  Duties include but are not limited to: attendance of staff meetings and trainings; ensuring compliance with rules regarding attendance sheets and the release of children to authorized individuals; setting up rooms and restoring them at end of day; preparing and assisting in implementing tutoring, academic activities, games, arts and crafts, music, drama, and snacks.

The "Lancaster Cares" After School Programs will begin when the regular school day ends (2:05 to 3:00, depending on site) and end at 6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Incumbents of this position should exemplify as well as teach children to follow the three basic rules of the program: Safety, Team Work, and Fun.

STANDARDS

This position requires high school graduation or the equivalent, eighteen years of age or older, a minimum of six months experience working with children in a recreation, education or child-care program, the ability to work cooperatively with staff, and a valid "Class C" California Driver's License. Possession of valid First Aid, as well as Child and Adult CPR certifications, or commitment to obtain certifications within one month of employment is also required.  College courses in early childhood education/development, recreation, education or a related field are highly desirable. Applicants must be willing to work weekends, evening hours and holidays.

SALARY: $11.57 - $13.03/hr.
