Definition

Under general supervision of the Pool Manager or Recreation Supervisor for Aquatics, the Senior Lifeguard assists with the planning, organizing and supervision of the aquatics activities and maintenance of the City's swimming pools; assists with scheduling of lifeguards and other pool personnel; directs lifeguards in the operation of pool equipment and the regular maintenance of the pool area, including water testing; and performs maintenance duties when necessary. The Senior Lifeguard also enforces all rules & regulations and serves as a lifeguard and swim instructor when necessary.  MUST BE WILLING TO WORK EARLY MORNINGS, WEEKENDS, EVENING HOURS AND HOLIDAYS.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be 21 years or older and possess the following current certifications: Community First Aid and Safety, Community CPR, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Training Instructor (LGI) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI). This position requires two (2) years aquatics experience with one year as a Lifeguard in charge or Senior Lifeguard. Applicants should possess some experience in competitive swimming as a participant or coach; must have knowledge of pool safety rules and regulations; and be able to instruct swim techniques. In addition, the ideal candidate will be able to: deal effectively with children and adults, perform maintenance duties, direct staff, and assist pool patrons.

Salary: $15.29 - $17.22 per hour


Selection Procedure

Applications will be accepted by the City of Lancaster until positions are filled. Only the most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in a practical swim test; successful passage of this swim test will qualify applicants for an appraisal interview.
