City of Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris Recognizes Pastor Jacob Johnson of Growing Valley Baptist Church as Newest Community Contributor

Post Date:08/09/2017

During last night’s City Council meeting, Mayor R. Rex Parris honored Pastor Jacob Johnson with the City’s most recent Community Contributor award. Pastor Johnson was recognized for his efforts to build a stronger Lancaster community through faith-based initiatives and beyond. The Community Contributors program recognizes those who have invested years of service into the community, and is part of the City’s yearlong 40th anniversary celebration. Pastor Johnson is the third Community Contributor to be recognized by the City of Lancaster.

“Individuals such as Pastor Johnson, who place a high value on community engagement, have a huge impact on the entire city, as well as our residents’ quality of life. Pastor Johnson’s passion for the growth and development of our community stretches far beyond his congregation; when Jacob sees a need, he addresses it,” said City of Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris. “While his duties as a pastor are extensive, they do not deter him from doing even more to help strengthen our community.”

Johnson has served as a pastor for the Growing Valley Baptist Church in Lancaster since 2011. In addition to his work with the church, Jacob has established the Community Contact Center for Growth (3CG), a non-profit organization founded out of his desire to meet the needs of the Antelope Valley community in a more direct way. 3CG provides access to: family services; personal growth and development opportunities; community awareness programming; and health & wellness education.

Pastor Johnson was also integral in launching Growing Valley Baptist Church’s new Triumph Youth Summer Camp – which aids local youth in becoming the best they can be via activities involving math, science, music, and art.

Pastor Johnson has earned his Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Political Science from the College of Wooster, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Ministry Leadership from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. His work within the Antelope Valley community has provided both youth and residents with countless opportunities to better themselves, and in turn the community as a whole.
