City of Lancaster Establishes Fund for Local Families Affected by Las Vegas Shooting
In an effort to support local families affected by the Las Vegas shooting, the City of Lancaster has established a GoFundMe account for the families of Antelope Valley residents whose loved ones were injured or murdered in the recent tragedy.
“During times like this, sometimes the best thing you can do for a friend who is grieving or in pain is to simply give them a hug and let them know how much you care. I believe that through this effort these families will feel the warm ‘embrace’ of our entire community – and know that we care,” said City of Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris. “I sincerely hope others around the nation will follow suit; all of us uniting nationwide to show our support for the many families in our community whose lives have been devastated by this unthinkable tragedy.”
Two Antelope Valley residents have been identified as murdered in the tragic Las Vegas shooting: Melissa Ramirez, a 26-year-old resident of Littlerock; and Jennifer Parks, a kindergarten teacher at Anaverde Hills school. In addition, a number of other Antelope Valley residents have been reported injured.
To jumpstart the campaign, Mayor Parris and his wife Carrol will be making an initial donation of $10,000, and they are inviting the community to join them in contributing to this important effort. The fund is primarily designed to assist the affected families with medical treatment or funeral costs. Those who would like to contribute can visit the GoFundMe page at www.gofundme.com/Lancaster-fund-for-families-affected-by-Las-Vegas-shooting starting tomorrow.
