Conversion Technology

Conversion Technology Resolution

The City Council passed a resolution in June 2008 declaring Lancaster’s support of Los Angeles County’s efforts to create conversion technology facilities. Conversion technology helps minimize the waste put in landfills, creates “green collar” jobs for the local economy, and puts waste material to good use while still contributing to the protection of the environment. The City Council has instructed the Public Works staff to collaborate with L.A. County officials to ensure that Lancaster is considered for future partnerships for the development of conversion technology facilities.

Ethanol Plant Recycle Green Waste

L.A. County’s first conversion technology facility, an ethanol plant, will be built in Lancaster. Irvine-based company BlueFire Ethanol will build the new facility near the Lancaster Landfill. The plant will convert biowaste, such as wood chips, grass cuttings and other green waste, into ethanol. Ethanol is a substance added to gasoline to help reduce pollution and can be used as an alternative fuel. Lancaster is proud to be part of this effort to use cutting-edge technology to help protect the environment!
