Safe Streets Grant

Lancaster, CA. December 20, 2023— U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) has announced a significant boost to road safety in Lancaster with the allocation of $19.7 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program. This funding, made possible through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will empower the City of Lancaster to embark on a transformative journey toward safer streets for all.

The SS4A Grant Program, which has allotted over $139 million to California, is designed to support regional, local, and Tribal initiatives to prevent roadway fatalities and severe injuries. Lancaster's share of this funding will be dedicated to implementing vital safety enhancements along Challenger Way. This corridor has witnessed a total of 148 crashes, including 9 fatalities or severe injuries, between 2017 and 2021.

"Road safety is a top priority for our community, and this $19.7 million grant will make a significant impact," said Mayor R. Rex Parris. "We are committed to making our streets safer for motorists and pedestrians. This funding will enable us to undertake comprehensive 'Complete Streets' improvements, ensuring everyone can navigate our City with confidence and security."

The Safe Streets and Roads for All grants across California are part of a larger effort to curb accidents and save lives on the road. Lancaster's project on Challenger Way will focus on designing and implementing infrastructure improvements that prioritize safety while enhancing the overall traffic flow. The City of Lancaster is determined to reduce accidents, injuries, and fatalities and create a safer environment for everyone who uses our roads.

Lancaster is excited about the potential of this grant to make our streets safer and more accessible for all residents and visitors. The City will work closely with the community to ensure that the funds are utilized effectively and that safety improvements align with the needs and priorities of our residents.
