These closures are necessary to facilitate ramp widening, pavement improvements, and traffic signal work that will enhance mobility and traffic circulation in and around Avenue J and the Lancaster Health District (currently in development). Construction activities are ongoing from Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists should anticipate delays and are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes. Real-time traffic information is available at Quick Map (ca.gov).
Construction on this project began in October 2023 and is scheduled for completion in Spring 2025, with an estimated cost of $35 million. Granite Construction of Watsonville, California, is the contractor overseeing this significant infrastructure upgrade.
The Avenue J Interchange Improvements project is a key component of Lancaster's broader vision to create a more efficient, safer, and sustainable transportation network. By investing in these critical infrastructure upgrades, the City is not only addressing immediate traffic concerns but also laying the groundwork for long-term growth and development. As we continue to enhance the mobility and accessibility of our community, this project will serve as a cornerstone in fostering economic vitality and improving the quality of life for all Lancaster residents.
