Lancaster, CA. September 4, 2024– This September, the City of Lancaster is joining the national effort to promote National Preparedness Month, raising awareness about the importance of being ready for disasters and emergencies. With the potential for earthquakes, fires, flash floods, droughts, electrical outages, high winds, and an occasional snowstorm, Lancaster faces a range of challenges. The key to staying safe is being prepared in advance and staying informed.
"National Preparedness Month serves as a positive reminder of the importance of being ready for any emergency," said Mayor R. Rex Parris. "In Lancaster, the safety and well-being of our residents is a top priority, and we continuously work to enhance our preparedness and response capabilities. By staying informed, making plans, and building community resilience, we can ensure that our City remains strong and united in the face of any challenge. Together, we can create a safer future for all. Let's take this month to educate, prepare, and protect our loved ones and our community. Stay safe, Lancaster."
To support residents in their preparedness efforts, the City of Lancaster will be running a month-long educational campaign on its social media platforms. This campaign will provide essential tips and information to help the community stay ready for emergencies. Additionally, in honor of National Preparedness Month, the City will be hosting a giveaway for two emergency kits. Residents are encouraged to follow the City's social media channels to learn how to enter the contest and get the chance to win these essential kits, designed to help families stay safe during unexpected events.
Lancaster’s emergency response program, Ready Lancaster, emphasizes three key steps: Ready. Respond. Recover. The City encourages every household to develop a family emergency plan and assemble an emergency supply kit. Simple steps, such as dividing responsibilities during an emergency, agreeing on a safe meeting location in case of separation, and having important documents readily accessible, can make all the difference when disaster strikes.
"As we recognize National Preparedness Month, it's crucial that every member of our community takes steps to protect their families and neighborhoods," said Councilmember Raj Malhi. "I encourage everyone to take advantage of our available resources and information through our Ready Lancaster emergency preparedness program to ensure we are all ready for whatever challenges may come our way."
The City of Lancaster is committed to ensuring that the community is prepared for any situation.
