A Day in the Desert Press Release-01

Lancaster, CA. October 21, 2024 – Join the Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) for a day of fun and discovery. On Saturday, October 26 various museum locations will host activities like a guided Joshua tree meditation, a thought-provoking discussion on environmental futures, a Joshua tree-focused panel discussion, a curator tour of the Desert Forest: Life with Joshua Trees exhibitions and more!

The first event of the day is a guided Joshua tree meditation and performance with artist Edgar Fabián Frías at the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve, located at 43201 35th Street West, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. This peaceful experience will allow participants to connect with the natural beauty of the Joshua tree ecosystem.

From 12 to 2 p.m., artist Adriene Jenik will engage participants in an interactive session exploring environmental themes and future possibilities through a creative, interpretive exercise. This unique experience will help participants reflect on environmental issues through art and symbolic imagery.

Following this, there will be a panel discussion with the curators of Desert Forest: Life with Joshua Trees, featuring artists, educators, a scientist and an environmental law attorney. The panel discussion will be taking place from 2 to 3:15 p.m. at MOAH. Lastly, there will be a curator's walkthrough with Sant Khalsa; artist and curator of Desert Forest: Life with Joshua Trees, from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. at MOAH.

Southern California’s landmark arts event, PST ART, returns in September 2024 with more than 70 exhibitions from museums and other institutions across the region, all exploring the intersections of art and science, both past and present. Dozens of cultural, scientific, and community organizations will join the latest edition, PST ART: Art & Science Collide, with exhibitions on subjects ranging from ancient cosmologies to Indigenous sci-fi, and from environmental justice to artificial intelligence.
