Lancaster, CA. May 12, 2025 – The City of Lancaster is proud to join the national effort in promoting water safety in observance of Water Safety Month. To mark the occasion, Lancaster is hosting two free, family-friendly events that make learning about water safety fun and accessible for everyone. As summer approaches, the City is committed to helping families build the knowledge and confidence they need to stay safe in and around water, while also enjoying memorable experiences together. 

Many water-related incidents are preventable with basic safety awareness, swimming skills, and attentive adult supervision. By prioritizing community-wide education, the City of Lancaster aims to reduce preventable accidents and help residents build lifelong water safety habits. While Water Safety Month shines a spotlight on these efforts in May, the City encourages families to continue the conversation year-round, especially during the higher-risk summer months.

The City will kick off its Water Safety Month observance with the Antelope Valley’s first Water Safety Challenge, taking place on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Eastside Pool,  located at 45045 5th St. E, Lancaster, CA. This interactive event invites parents and children to learn water safety skills through hands-on activities, live rescue demonstrations, and educational games. Attendees can also enjoy vendor booths, giveaways, and more. Admission to the event is free, but capacity is limited to 200 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Water safety is a serious issue, especially as we head into the summer months, but learning how to stay safe doesn’t have to be intimidating,” said Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris. “In Lancaster, we’re proud to offer opportunities that turn education into hands-on, engaging experiences for everyone.” 

The fun continues with Lancaster’s participation in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson on Wednesday, June 26, from 9 a.m. to noon, also at the Eastside Pool. This international initiative is designed to raise awareness that Swimming Lessons Save Lives™. This event will feature free 30-minute group swimming lessons for all ages and skill levels. Registration opens at 8 a.m. June 1 and closes June 21.
