Lancaster, CA. May 22, 2025 - As of May 20, 2025, the May 2, 2025, submission of documents seeking the recall of Mayor R. Rex Parris has officially expired. Under the California Elections Code, the recall proponents were required to submit the next phase of recall paperwork within a specific timeframe following the City Clerk and Elections Official’s written statement of required alterations to the form of petition submitted by the recall proponents. That deadline has passed without the proponents submitting the required revised form of recall petition.

As previously noted by the City Elections Official, the May 2, 2025 recall submission failed to comply with the requirements set forth in the Elections Code. These failings, and the necessary alterations to bring the form of recall petition into compliance with the Elections Code, were identified during the formal review process, and a written statement of required alterations was provided to the proponents.

No new or corrected recall documents have been timely submitted to the City Clerk/Elections Official. As such, the May 2, 2025, recall is no longer in effect, and there is no active recall process at this time. Any future recall effort would need to restart the process in full and meet all legal requirements set forth in the Elections Code.

Residents with questions about the recall process or general election procedures are welcome to contact the City Clerk’s Office for additional information.
