Lancaster’s Museum of Art and History (MOAH) is excited to announce the opening of the Andrew Frieder Creative Space in MOAH:CEDAR’s West Gallery on Thursday, October 22 at 3 p.m. Per the late artist’s wishes, the Creative Space will serve as a drop-in art studio during MOAH:CEDAR’s regular operating hours.
On opening day, also beginning at 3 p.m., MOAH-exhibiting artist Jeremie Riggleman will host the October Young Artist Workshop, at which participants will design stencils to create their own stickers. The Creative Space will be the new designated space for all future MOAH Young Artist Workshops, which occur monthly.
Frieder believed that, “Creation, itself, is perhaps as important as the finished product.” He felt that creation was an essential therapeutic element in his own life, and wanted to share his art with the public because he thought that everyone should have access to art’s therapeutic qualities.
He spent his most productive years in the Antelope Valley, working across a wide variety of forms, including painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, haberdashery, and cobbling. Through the Andrew Frieder Creative Space, MOAH and the Frieder family have joined to publicly share Frieder’s passion in Lancaster, the city in which he discovered his artistic voice.
The Creative Space is made possible through generous donations by the Frieder family, including gifting Frieder’s entire studio to the Museum for use. Members of the Frieder family and Paige Wery, curator of Los Angeles’ Good Luck Gallery and representative of Andrew Frieder’s creative estate, have been invited to attend the opening event as guests of honor.
Press is invited to the event after 4:30 p.m. for photo and interview opportunities.
