Lancaster, CA - The Boeing Company has donated $9,000 to the City of Lancaster Museum/Art Gallery, which will enable the staff to bring a part of the Museum/Art Gallery to local schools.
Due to many budget restrictions, not all schools are able to sponsor school field trips to museums and art galleries. Teachers can now request free visits from the education specialist who will bring a hands-on “mini-museum” educational trunk on different topics including:
- Antelope Valley Pioneers -- the Homesteading Trunk
- AV Native Americans and Missions
- The Life of an Antelope Valley Miner -- The Gold Trunk
- Ancient Egyptian Mummification
- The Vaqueros and Cowboys Trunk -- Ride 'Em Cowboy!
- The World of Dinosaurs and Ice Age Mammals
- The Archaeologist's Trunk -- Archaeology, Geology, and Geography
Each presentation is about one hour in length and includes artifacts, antiques, artwork and historical replicas as well as hands-on activities for the children.
The Lancaster Museum/Art Gallery Education Specialist Jessica Derrick is a museum assistant with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science and Communications from CSU – Bakersfield (2004). She also has an Associate degree in Art. Derrick has been with the Museum/Art Gallery for seven years.
“These programs will enhance a school’s curriculum in a fun and educational manner,” comments Derrick. Elementary teachers from public, private and home-based schools can call and make an appointment at (661) 723-6250. “We encourage teachers to call soon to reserve a spot,” says Derrick.
