City of Lancaster and Waste Management Collaborate to Make Residential Trash Service More Efficient

Beginning March 25, Residential Trash Pick-Up Service will Transition from Alleyway to Front-of-House

Post Date:03/14/2019 1:00 PM

Residential_Wheeling Toter_06The City of Lancaster, in collaboration with Waste Management, will be transitioning residential trash service from alleyways to front-of-house service the week of March 25.

This transition only affects alleyway service within the City limits of Lancaster and service days will not change. Residents must place containers out for service in front of the home before 6 a.m. on their assigned service day. Reminder notices and additional courtesy pickups will only be issued during the one week following the transition.

The City of Lancaster is committed to identifying ways to alleviate the blight of illegal dumping and allow maintenance crews to be more efficient with their time. Moving the cans to the front of the house means residents are more likely to remember to bring the cans in from the street, reducing the enticement for unsightly illegal dumping and theft, while helping to keep the alleyways clear.

Moving trash service out of the alleyways also provides greater safety for drivers and residents alike, as trash trucks utilize an articulating arm to lift the cans up, over, and into the truck.  Low hanging wires often found in alleyways pose a safety threat to those in and around the vehicle. Furthermore, moving service to the front of the property helps protect public infrastructure and private property by lessening traffic in alleyways, as these areas were not designed to function as primary roadways for heavy service vehicles such as trash trucks.

Should residents have any questions regarding this change or their service, they may visit www.wm.com/us/local/ca/lancaster/residential/, or contact Waste Management Customer Service at (661) 947-7197.
