MOAH:CEDAR and the Lancaster Museum and Public Art Foundation (LMPAF) invite Antelope Valley residents and visitors to its newest exhibition, Collateral Damage – an immersive and interactive installation by Snezana Saraswati Petrovic. The exhibit will be on display July 6 through August 18, with the opening reception being held July 6 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Inspired by the artist’s experiences with ocean creatures during an artists’ workshop in Hawaii, Collateral Damage raises awareness of the damage to nature that humans are unintentionally causing. The site-specific installation is based on Petrovic’s vision of a “museum of the future” founded by a fictional character named “Mother”, in which guests are plunged into a post-apocalyptic underground world of pseudo-oceans and plastic bionic gardens.

The exhibition includes interactive elements and games; immersive oceanic and plastic-fantastic environments; diverse materials such as zip-ties and 3-D printed corals; video projections covering the walls and ceilings of MOAH:CEDAR; and sound components throughout. Petrovic’s playful approach to ecological concerns is meant to inspire change regarding how human beings treat the planet, especially its oceans.

Snezana Saraswati Petrovic received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Belgrade University, Serbia and her Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Irvine. She is an independent curator, gallery director, and educator. Her work has been presented throughout southern California and internationally in Singapore, Amsterdam, Belgrade, and Prague.

Together with the Museum of Art & History, MOAH:CEDAR is a catalyst for engaging a diverse audience through captivating exhibitions, innovative artists, and dynamic programming. The gallery aspires to encourage progressive ideas and experimental genres of artwork, which highlight performance, education, and studio practice. MOAH:CEDAR is open Thursday – Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.lancastermoah.org/moah-cedar or call (661) 723-6250.
