Statement from City of Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris Regarding Yesterday’s CHP Officer Shooting in Riverside, CA
With great sadness, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of California Highway Patrol Officer, Andrew Moye, Jr., who was killed on duty yesterday in Riverside. While Officer Moye, Jr. was completing paperwork to have a vehicle impounded, the driver retrieved a firearm from the vehicle and fatally wounded the officer. The motivation for this tragic shooting remains unknown.
At 33 years of age and with only a few years on the force, CHP Officer Moye, Jr. had a full life and career ahead of him. Today, as we grieve his loss, we asked surrounding communities to join in lowering flags to half-mast. Let us pray for healing and peace for all those affected, as well as for our nation as a whole. We are living in truly dangerous times.
