Evelyn Medrano is a longtime resident of the Antelope Valley and a Highland High school alum. She attended the University of California, Santa Barbara where she earned a bachelors degree in Global Studies with an emphasis in Latin America and a minor in Spanish translation. During her time in Santa Barbara, she served as an interpreter for Spanish speaking families at Isla Vista Elementary School, and worked under the Director of the Bilingualism, Translation, and Cognition Laboratory at UCSB as a research assistant.
Medrano has a passion for languages; speaking fluent Spanish, conversational German, and is currently learning Portuguese. This spurred her ongoing interest in the study of bilingualism and reading comprehension in children. She was a presenter at the University of California, Davis Symposium on Language research. She intends to implement her research background in positive ways within the community and has plans to pursue a JD.
