Make a Difference in Your Community!

The City of Lancaster offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for citizens wishing to get involved to make a difference in their community. Such volunteer work provides valuable work experience; avenues for meeting new people; use of skills to help others; and opportunities for strengthening the community while showing civic pride.

Sometimes people underestimate the value of their time and skills. Even an hour of volunteer work can have a dramatic impact on a project or event. The City is always looking to engage the public in what we do. After all, this is their city, and they are the key players in making Lancaster a thriving community.

City volunteers learn about local government and the various departments it takes to operate the many services offered to the public. Departments and divisions (download list) that welcome assistance include:
The City benefits from volunteer services by gaining fresh insight, added skills, and cost-effective service with a smile from willing participants who recognize the win-win nature of sharing their special talents with others.

City events which offer volunteer opportunities in addition to office assistance include: Bark at the Park; California Poppy Festival; Lancaster Museum and Art Gallery; Lancaster Performing Arts Center; Looking Good Lancaster; Martin Luther King Day of Service; Neighborhood Watch; and the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve. The City also hosts new events, such as the recent Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix during which Bank of America employees were key volunteers adding to the event’s tremendous success.

We can’t emphasize enough the importance of volunteers in the work we do all year long. Everyone has something to give. We provide the best service we can every day to our citizens, both as government employees and as members of this community. Please invite others to enjoy the gratification we receive in making Lancaster a better place to live, work, play, and visit.

Becoming a volunteer not only enhances one’s professional and social skills, but also resonates a feeling of giving something extra of oneself. A thriving community includes an active volunteer base!
