The Public Safety Office would like to remind Lancaster residents that there are several options available for reporting crime and suspicious activity. Of course, if you are witnessing a crime in progress, you should always call the Sheriff’s Station at (661) 948-8466 (dial 911 if there is an immediate threat to someone’s life and/or safety).

Los Angeles Crime Stoppers
(800) 222-TIPS (8477)

Crime Stoppers is a national anonymous tip line that was launched in 1976 by a detective. Since then, the program has expanded to over 1,400 satellite programs across the world.

Our local Crime Stoppers program works with the Sheriff’s Department and all law enforcement agencies throughout Los Angeles County to help solve crimes by collecting tips from people all over, including those who may live out of the area. The caller is provided with a secret code for tracking and reward purposes, and assuming the caller provides any personal information when calling, the caller’s identity is encrypted for protection.

Reporting tips to Crime Stoppers can also be done online via the link above, or even from your text-capable cell phone by texting “TIPLA” and your tip to 274637.

Online Police Report

If you’ve been the victim of certain types of crime, you may also be eligible to file your police report online through the City’s website, rather than wait for a Deputy or Community Service Officer (CSO) to respond. Simply visit the City’s website at and click on “File a Police Report” at the very top of the page. Types of crimes that can be reported using this online service include:

• Lost property (cell phones, purses, wallets, etc.), as long as the total loss does not exceed $5,000
• Annoying/harassing phone calls (repeated hang-ups, obscene or threatening calls, etc.)
• Vandalism of up to $5,000
• Certain types of theft, up to $5,000
• Shoplifting
• Theft from an unlocked vehicle
• Theft from an open space, such as a yard, porch, or lot
• Theft of vehicle parts or accessories
• Theft from a coin-operated machine

A few things to keep in mind: online police reports can ONLY be filed when the total loss or damage is less than $5,000, there is no suspect information, the incident occurred within Lancaster City limits, and you have a valid email address. Also, burglaries (thefts from buildings, except shoplifting, or from locked vehicles) must be reported by calling the Sheriff’s Station at (661) 948-8466. If you are reporting the loss or theft of serialized items, such as a driver’s license or electronics, have the serial number and make/model available to list on the report, if at all possible. While graffiti can be reported using this online system, pictures cannot be attached, so please consider calling the Station instead.

After you file your report, it will be reviewed by the Station and you will be given a report number via email. All online police reports are investigated and handled just like any other report taken by Sheriff’s Station personnel.

This online system is intended as an additional resource for citizens. It can save time and is an easy alternative to having a CSO or Deputy respond to take a report.
