APRIL 14, 2026 GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION INFORMATION/UPDATES
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS TO RUN FOR OFFICE:
- A person must be a United States citizen
- Must be 18 Years of age or older
- Registered to vote within the City of Lancaster at the time nomination papers are issued.
IMPORTANT DATES:
December 22, 2025: Nomination period opens (City Hall Closed on December 25-26, 2025; December 31, 2025 & January 1, 2026 in Observance of Holidays)
January 16, 2026: Nomination period closes
January 21, 2026: Last Day to File Nomination Papers if an Incumbent doesn't file (January 19, 2026 City Hall Closed in observance of MLK Day)
February 16, 2026- March 31, 2026: Period to Accept Write-In Candidates
March 30, 2026: Close of Voter Registration
April 14, 2026: ELECTION DAY
May 5, 2026: Certify Election Results April 28, 2026: Certify Election Results
All-Mail Ballot Election
Pursuant to City Ordinance, the City of Lancaster will conduct the 2026 General Municipal Election as an All-Mail Ballot Election. All registered voters will receive their ballots by mail. To ensure your vote is counted, please return your ballot via the U.S. Postal Service, or use one of the designated secure drop boxes located throughout the City by April 14, 2026, at 8 p.m. Please be advised that new USPS regulations introduced significant changes to the postmark process. The postmark will now reflect the date an envelope is first processed by an automated sorting machine, rather than the actual drop-off date. Traditional polling places will not be available.

* Election Code Section 10224.5 requires incumbent office holders to be identified if they have been furnished nomination papers. Please be advised that Marvin Crist and Raj Malhi were furnished nomination papers on 12/22/2025. Update: Incumbent Marvin Crist did not file. Nomination period extended to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
