Our primary objective is to reduce traffic collisions, prevent injuries and fatalities, and improve the overall safety of our roadways for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.

History:

The LPD prioritizes traffic enforcement to identify and address behaviors that directly contribute to collisions, injuries, and fatalities. Officers primarily focus enforcement on high-risk violations including speeding, driving under the influence, distracted or aggressive driving, failure to yield, red-light and stop-sign violations, seat belt violations, unsafe lane changes, and tailgating. 

To maximize public safety, traffic enforcement is strictly data-driven and responsive to the Lancaster community’s needs. Enforcement efforts are based on objective information including collision trends, high-risk intersections, school and pedestrian safety concerns, and specific requests submitted by community members and neighborhood organizations.

Resources are deployed where data indicates the greatest need to improve roadway safety.

State-of-the-art police vehicles

The City of Lancaster is thrilled to announce the addition of new police vehicles equipped with state-of-the art technology aimed at enhancing public safety. The 2023 Dodge Durango Pursuit vehicles with added features of BluePRINT Sync will provide an advanced warning system and synced coordination between vehicles, enabling officers to respond at a quicker, safer and more efficient rate.

Unmanned Aerial System

The Lancaster drone program utilizes advanced drone technology to enhance law enforcement operations and public safety. Drones provide aerial support, improve response times, and aid in investigations. The program demonstrates a commitment to safety, responsibility, and transparency while fostering a sense of security within the community.
