What's in it for you? 

Often Neighborhood Watch groups get started because of incidents in the community that have caused concern—burglaries, acts of vandalism, auto thefts, or drug sales, for example. These are the types of crimes that Neighborhood Watch is most successful in reducing.

What is Neighborhood Watch?

Neighborhood Watch is a community-based program supported by the National Sheriff's Association. Since its inception in 1972, thousands of communities across the nation have established Neighborhood Watch in their neighborhoods and have made a REAL difference in public safety.

How to get started

1. Contact the Lancaster Police Department Office at (661) 723-6063 or via e-mail for a program information packet
2. Arrange a kick-off meeting
3. Choose a block captain to head your group
4. Learn Neighborhood Watch basics and how to report crime and suspicious activity
5. Assess your neighborhood's needs and concerns
6. Build neighborhood participation
7. Maintain energy and involvement
8. Celebrate with your neighbors by having a barbecue, holiday party, or neighborhood cleanup

Staying active

It's an unfortunate fact that when a neighborhood issue or crime goes away, so does the enthusiasm for Neighborhood Watch. The key to keeping a Neighborhood Watch group active over time is to maintain people's interest.

Adopt a long-term attitude from the start—the goal is to empower people to prevent crime, to forge bonds among residents and law enforcement, and to build a base for broader community involvement.

You can make a difference! Good neighbors are what make a Neighborhood Watch program successful. Neighbors are the "eyes and ears" of their neighborhood. Building a spirit of community helps keep everyone safer and more secure... and that's what Neighborhood Watch is all about!

Package Theft

Help build a national database for package theft by reporting thefts in your neighborhood.

In addition to filing a report with the Sheriff’s Department, victims of package theft also have the option of reporting the incident on Security.org’s online form listed above. Each quarter Security.org will send the data to local law makers to raise awareness and arm them with information when making decisions that impact the community. Security.org will also be making a donation to local Neighborhood Watch programs where the most package theft occurred.
