The City of Lancaster is introducing a Dynamic Lane Configuration on Avenue J between 30th Street West and 27th Street West, adjacent to Amargosa Creek Middle School to improve safety and traffic flow during school arrival and dismissal. 

This project is designed to reduce morning and afternoon traffic congestion, optimize vehicle flow, and ensure maximum safety for students, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

How the New Traffic Pattern Works

To keep through-traffic moving while organizing school drop-off and pick-up queues, the lane functions differently depending on the time of day:

• School Arrival & Dismissal Hours: The designated bike lane temporarily converts into a Vehicle Queuing Lane. Parents and guardians waiting to enter the school line up here to prevent traffic from backing up into the main road.

• Non-School Hours: The lane operates purely as a standard bike lane.

• Through Lanes: The primary travel lanes on Avenue J remain open for normal traffic flow at all times.

Key Operational Rules

• Queue in the Lane: Drivers waiting for school entry should line up in the dynamic queuing lane off the main road.

• No Drop-Offs in the Dynamic Lane: Stopping to let students out in the dynamic/bike lane is strictly prohibited.

• Use Official Loading Zones: All student drop-offs and pick-ups must occur inside Amargosa Creek Middle School’s designated loading area.

• Obey Posted Signage: Watch for updated pavement markings and signs directing peak-hour usage.
