Zika Virus Facts
(CDC Website) Transmission:
• Transmitted by yellow fever and Asian tiger mosquitoes
• Can be transmitted sexually
• Mosquitoes attain the disease after biting someone that is infected
• Transmitting mosquitoes bite mostly during the day
• Can’t be transmitted through casual contact (ex. touching an infected person)
Symptoms:
• Symptoms usually last 2-7 days (WHO website)
• Fever
• Rash
• Conjunctivitis (Red eyes)
• Muscle pain
• Headache
• Pain behind the eyes
• Vomiting (L.A County Public Health)
• Once infected, infected person is likely to be protected from future infections
• Infection stays in blood for no longer than a week
• Treat pain and fever with common medicine if worsens or persist seek medical attention
Prevention (WHO website):
• Use insect repellent
• Keep body covered
• Keep windows and doors closed
Treatment:
• No vaccination exists
• If noticing symptoms:
• Get plenty of rest
• Drink a lot of fluids
• Seek medical attention
